This week there was a lot happening in the Microsoft tech world. First, we had the public release of the Microsoft Edge Developer and Canary builds of the company’s new Chromium-based browser on Monday. A couple of hours later they then opened up the Windows Insiders Release Preview ring with Build 18362 of the May 2019 Update aka 19H1. Then mid-week, they merged the Skip Ahead 20H1 ring back to the Fast Ring and made Build 18875 available for testers. Pretty much exactly as we predicted and discussed during last week’s show.

We get back at it this week catching up on the latest build released for Windows Insiders, a closer look at Windows Sandbox in Windows 10 19H1, and Cortana being quieter during the OOBE. Then we run down a laundry list of app and service related updates, a few more end of year reflections from Microsoft, Windows 10 finally surpassing Windows 7 in market share at the end of 2018, and the countdown for the end of Lifecycle Support for Windows 7 in January 2020.

Great to be back behind the mike after some downtime and so we catch up on a lot of news both from this past week and a few items from the week before that are of note. Plenty happening in the Windows Insider world including a new build for testers and a cumulative update with fixes for the October 2018 Update. In addition, we have a handful of app related updates to mention plus Microsoft’s rise to being the most valuable U.S. based company based on their market cap. Of course, we have a lot of other items throughout the show on all kinds of subjects so be sure to listen all the way until the end.

Setting Up Skype Calling on Amazon Alexa Devices

Microsoft has deepened the integration of their services with Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant with the addition of Skype calling this week to the Alexa ecosystem. After a very quick setup process using the Alexa App, you will now be able to use Skype on any of your Alexa enabled devices.

Windows 10 19H1 Build 18277 Highlights

This week Microsoft has released their 12th overall development build as they continue work on the expected seventh feature update for Windows 10. That feature update, known by its code name 19H1, is expected in the March/April 2019 time frame. These early builds give us some indication where Microsoft might be headed with this upcoming release when it comes to features, capabilities, and other tweaks to the operating system.
