Update: Within minutes of publishing this blog post the video is once again live on the official Surface YouTube channel.  Still no explanation on why it all happened.

Thanks to @MS_SurfaceEvang for the tip via Twitter.

For some reason DS2DIO has asked YouTube to block the Microsoft Surface Movement commercial on the official Surface YouTube channel. The commercial was released earlier this week and saw its first airplay on television Sunday night in the United States.

Here is what you find Saturday night if you try to view the video via the Surface YouTube page:

Of course, as is normal with YouTube, you just get this external notice of the copyright claim but no explanation is available to those of us outside the parties involved.

It is interesting who the claim is coming from because the Surface Movement commercial is on DS2DIO’s YouTube channel because it was directed by Jon M. Chu who is associated with DS2DIO and has directed other videos for that organization/company.

The version of the video on DS2DIO’s YouTube page was uploaded five days ago on 15 Oct 2012 and has just over 307K views as of this post.  The Microsoft upload on the Surface YouTube page was also uploaded five days ago which corresponds to the 15th of October.

Definitely not normal to see a production company block a video that they produced for a company from being displayed on the companies official YouTube channel.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few days.

What do you think happened?
