Today Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, announced an upcoming policy change for Xbox Live Arcade Games that will allow developers to increase the overall Gamerscore for their games to a maximum of 400 points compared to the current 200.
The policy, which goes into effect in June 2012, also allows for the addition of up to 30 Achievements in each Xbox Live Arcade Game.
This increase will begin with all new Xbox Live Arcade Games that are released starting in April 2012 and is optional at that time. In June 2012 these increases will be required for all Xbox Live Arcade Titles that are submitted for inclusion in the Xbox Marketplace.
If you take a look at the comments section of Major Nelson’s posting about these changes they are getting a fairly lukewarm reception overall.
