Microsoft has begun the public testing of its next update for Windows 10 which will be known as Windows 11. It is expected to reach general availability this “holiday season” which most likely means sometime between October and December. Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 296 #OTP

We begin this episode with a reminder that the Windows 7 End of Lifecycle Support clock is ticking and pointing out a Twitter account that you can follow to keep up with the countdown. We also had a new Windows Insider build to talk about along with a new reserved storage enhancement that is rolling out. I share some of my observations on what could be a key success factor for future Windows 10 upgrades. After that we dive into our normal list of things like app updates, the latest on the January 2019 Patch Tuesday, Xbox gaming related news, and a quick rundown of all the new hardware announced last week at the annual Consumer Electronics Show 2019.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 284 #OTP

We were supposed to be kicking this show off with all the details around the launch of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update along with the news from the Microsoft hardware/software event held in New York City this past week. We will still talk about those events however, it will be tempered with the fact that this sixth feature update’s roll out has been halted by Microsoft. We will discuss the reasons behind that abrupt change and other aspects of the roll out. Still, despite that breaking news from late last week about this update, the announcements made at the New York City event were significant. What we heard and saw about new hardware and software from Microsoft were important elements of the companies strategy moving forward and answers a few questions about the future.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 275 #OTP

We kick this weeks show off with a lot of Windows Insider news. Three new builds were made available for testers in the Fast Ring (Build 17723), Slow Ring (Build 17713.1002) and Skip Ahead received its first offering (Build 18204). There were also several new previews made available for Office Server 2019 elements like Skype, Exchange and SharePoint. Next up it is Surface including my own quick visit ith Surface Go at my local Best Buy. Then we talk about Outlook.com coming out of beta including its new Dark Mode, the continued growth of the April 2018 Update on Windows 10 devices, targeted installs from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and the possibility of Devices as a Service (DaaS) from Microsoft in the future. Of course, we have tons of other tidbits scattered throughout the show so make sure you stay tuned in all the way until the end to catch everything.

Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 234 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 234 of Observed.Tech. We start off with an update about builds for this past week for Windows Insiders, one mobile update and nothing for desktops, and some interesting information about the under the hood update/upgrade process for Windows 10. I then discuss another update for unsupported Windows operating systems XP and Vista, how Microsoft is adding even more products to their rapid release cycle of two feature updates per year, and Intel’s concern about Microsoft emulating x86 on devices that will run Windows 10 on ARM so that desktop software will run on these battery efficient devices. I also cover some more Xbox/E3 news, the lifted review embargo for Surface Laptop and Surface Pro hardware, and a handful of interesting articles about various technologies.
