Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 186 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 186 of Observed Tech. In this show I talk about Windows Phone upgrade advisor apps, a sneak peek at what might be a new Microsoft Authenticator app that is going through internal testing at Microsoft and the fact that BUILD 2016 sold out in just one minute. After the long three day weekend here in the US we are also seeing the Xbox One Preview program release its first update for the console alongside of further updates to the Xbox Beta app. These updates bring back some very popular features that were temporarily loss when the console got its Windows 10 upgrade last fall. After some testing I learned that it was actually possible to have functioning and synching favorites on Microsoft Edge so I share some of the insight from that experience that will hopefully help many of you get that working as well. I then spend some time talking about the improvements in the update process when it comes to Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 and how Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 has cut down on the volume of updates needed to get an OS up to speed. I also mention the free EA Access for a week for your Xbox One and the one year of Office 365 Personal that is available for Lumia 950 and 950 XL owners through the Lumia Offers app. Of course there are plenty of other items spread throughout the show so please enjoy everything and thanks for listening.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 185 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 185 of Observed Tech – the first show of 2016! We kick off the new year talking about a great interview with Satya Nadella on Buzzfeed and how it really provides concrete insight to his approach and how he is not focused on market share for the companies products and services – especially Windows 10 Mobile. I then update on a few more additions to the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Parade as some new universal apps are added to the Windows Store along with reports of others joining the UWP family soon. I also spend a little time talk about the app-ocalypse, a word I can not say very well, and whether we could actually use all these services in our mobile browser instead of through apps. It looks like T-Mobile may be releasing a Windows 10 Mobile device and that firmware update for the Lumia 950 and 950 XL apparently improves battery life amongst other things although I am still waiting to receive the update myself to test it out for my AT&T based 950. Security, both keeping you informed about attempts to access your account and the ease with which some companies can allow someone access to your account with public info, was in the spotlight this past week and so I spend some time talking about that and Two Factor Authentication. Some other areas that I talk about include the most vulnerable software in 2015, Windows 10 install momentum and what I want to see change with Microsoft services and Windows 10 during 2016. Of course there are plenty of other items spread throughout the show so please enjoy everything and thanks for listening.

In this last show of the year, I start out talking about sharing hotel rooms with strangers, Amazon Prime adding lots of new customers over the holidays, Star Wars: The Force Awakens reaching$1 billion in box office sales and a price hike plus delivery delay for the Surface Hub. One of the best items of news in the Microsoft world last week was the appearance of Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Chris Caposella on the Windows Weekly podcast and his discussion along several fronts including mobile hardware such as Lumia 650 and Surface Phone, Windows 10 upgrades, cultural changes at the company, the hit and miss of the Xbox One Elite Controller plus the status of Microsoft vs Amazon on the cloud front. Also in the line up is the arrival of more apps which support the Universal Windows Platform, kind of free Windows 10 product keys, deadline for Microsoft contract workers, misinterpreted Windows 10 patches, why government agencies should upgrade to Windows 10 and firmware updates for Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Of course last week also saw the release of 13 Beatles albums to streaming services including Groove Music on Windows 10, Bing search engine growth, taking out Man in the Middle ad injection and browser hijacking, new updates for Windows App Studio and deploying Windows 10 at Microsoft. There are plenty of other items sprinkled throughout the show so until next time enjoy and thanks for listening.
