Skype Insiders are getting to test a much requested feature in the Microsoft Store version of the app.
Earlier this week the @SkypeInsider Twitter account revealed that Split View is now available for Insiders to test on their systems.
Split View mode is now available on our latest Skype for Windows 10 Insiders builds, 18.104.22.168/22.214.171.124! Try it out and send us your feedback! For more info on Skype for Windows 10 Insiders visit https://t.co/OnxwFfDOhV. ^KB

This new option allows users to have a vertical window with their list of contacts visible then, when they click on any active chat, a separate window will open up for that conversation. This gives users flexibility in how they approach their Skype chats and have a much smaller UI overall.
You can join the Skype Insider Program and download the latest testing builds to try out this and other new features ahead of their release.
