Earlier today I told you about the availability of the full version of Windows 8.1 for pre-order at the Microsoft Store and confirmed the pricing for Windows 8.1 Pro is $199.99 if you do not already have Windows 8.
Anyone who is already running Windows 8 Pro will get the upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro for free beginning on 17 October 2013.
If you are not on Windows 8 yet there is actually a way to get upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and not pay $199.99 for the new release that is arriving in two weeks.
Here is what you do:
- Go to Amazon and order the Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Upgrade for $78.89. This version allows you to install the upgrade from Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista and Windows 7.
- Once your Windows 8 Pro upgrade is installed then you will be able to download the Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade at no cost beginning on 17 October 2013 since the upgrade is free for current Windows 8 users.
This method will let you save over $120 in the upgrade process and still get you on the latest and greatest version of Windows as of 17 October.
Note: That Amazon link to Windows 8 Pro is an affiliate link so I do earn a percentage of all sales through it. Using that link does not increase your purchase costs though and your support of WindowsObserver.com by using it is appreciated.
