If you missed the #Sharknado last night on Twitter I am not sure whether to express my sympathy or say congratulations. I think it was an an unexpected experience for everyone involved.
Just check out some of the coverage it generated across the blogosphere:
- ‘Sharknado’ Takes Social Media By Storm (Variety)
- Oh no, it’s Sharknado and it’s ravaging Twitter (CNN)
- ‘Sharknado’ keeps TV real (LA Times)
- ‘Sharknado’- What Hollywood Is Saying About Syfy’s Movie (Hollywood Reporter)
- Sharknado Takes Twitter by Storm (Mashable)
So this made for SyFy movie lit Twitter up last night like a Christmas Tree. It took over several top trending topics last night with the hashtag #Sharknado and even this morning the snark continues.
However, during the height of the #Sharknado storm last night the National Weather Service and the Red Cross took the opportunity to jump on Twitter and use the #Sharknado hashtag to their benefit and get some real world tips out about how to be prepared for severe weather.
Here are just a few of their tweets from the evening:
