Yesterday Twitter announced via their blog that they have activated a new feature that will allow you to receive tweets that @mention you directly to your cell phone via SMS.
Whenever an account that you follow mentions you, you’ll immediately receive a notification. You’ll know who is talking to or about you on Twitter, and you’ll be able to continue the conversation in real-time.
Activating this feature is easy.
Just log into your Twitter account and go to the Settings>Mobile tab:
Underneath the Text message notifications you can activate specific users you have opted to follow via mobile notifications or have DM’s, @mentions or @replies sent to your mobile phone.
I had someone ask me about this via Twitter about three weeks ago – they had a real premonition about this service coming out as they were looking for just this functionality. I hope they hear about this so they can use it.
