Microsoft Issues Fix It Solution to Implement MSHTML Shim Workaround for Recent IE Vulnerability

We mentioned this past weekend that Microsoft had provided a work around for an IE vulnerability that they were recently made aware of.  Now they have released a Fix It solution that will make those changes for you until a full update is released to fix the vulnerability which impacts older versions of IE6, IE7 and IE8.

All you need to do is visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2794220 and look for these two buttons about midway down the page:

fixitievulnerability

The Fix It solutions are very straight forward as one implements the work around and the other disables it.

According to Microsoft’s original security advisory one solution to remedy this issue is to upgrade to at least IE9 if you are still running these older versions of IE as it and IE10 are unaffected by it.

I guess that is one of the benefits of using a more recent browser and staying up to date.
