Welcome to Episode 241 of Observed Tech. Although there were no new desktop builds this week for Windows Insiders, there were new builds to test for Windows 10 Mobile and the Xbox One team started testing their Fall Update with a huge update. I talk about the situation between Consumer Reports and Microsoft when it comes to reliability of the Surface Hardware line and Consumer Reports removal of the recommended label for the latest Surface hardware. Lots of information about the new build on Xbox One for that teams Fall Update and the revamped Xbox Insider Program with specifics on how to gain access to higher testing rings. Welcome to Episode 239 of Observed Tech. This week there is a bunch of Windows 10 news around the Creators Update, the upcoming Fall Creators Update, and even the feature update that is expected in the Spring of 2018. I finally got to install and try out Windows 10 S this past week to begin trying out the “app only life”. I started by doing a clean install on a Lenovo Miix-720 and getting it all setup including hardware drivers and apps including Office 365 from the Windows Store. The big challenge is installing drivers that are embedded within executable files but there is a work around and I share the details. Of course, spread throughout the show are plenty of other tidbits across a wide range of tech subjects so be sure to listen all the way until the end. Welcome to Episode 219 of Observed.Tech. In this week’s show we start off by talking about an out of band security update for Flash on Windows after the normal Patch Tuesday updates were delayed last week however, we also discuss whether another vulnerability will also be patched before next months updates are issued on 14 March 2017. I share with you my experience in signing up friends to use my Outlook.com premium service for their own unique email address on my custom domain which was a lot easier than getting everything setup in the first place. We also talk about the slow trickle of Microsoft Edge extensions, a new email search utility for Outlook and Gmail accounts, and how HoloLens is helping a medical technology company design operating rooms for hospitals. There is plenty to discuss about Windows 10 as well including confirmation of Redstone 3, a lack of new builds over the last two weeks, and concerns about privacy in the EU getting some attention despite the efforts Microsoft has made to be more transparent in this area. As always there are other tidbits scattered throughout the show including Gmail and Blizzard dropping support for Windows XP and Vista, a new Windows 10 bug tracker for developers, using an Outlook calendar with Alexa, Microsoft’s call for a Digital Geneva Convention, and whether Windows Phone/Mobile is dead. Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 205 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 205 of Observed.Tech! Today’s show went for almost an hour so there is a lot to discuss as it has been a busy week around Microsoft and tech in general. I start off by spending some time talking about the latest concerns around Windows 10 regarding privacy and security then I bring everyone up to date on the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for mobile devices. We are also now fully into the development of Redstone 2, the next major release of Windows 10 expected in 2017, with the release of Build 14905 this week for PCs and mobile devices. Windows as a Service (WaaS) with its cumulative updates is now rubbing off on Windows 7 and 8.1 as those systems will now start getting updates rolled into a single package. This is causing some concerns right now but in the long run should improve the update experience on these versions of Windows. It kicks off in October of this year. In the Xbox world we talk about the companies acquisition of livestreaming service Beam, the win in July for console sales versus Sony and Game Previews coming to Windows 10 this fall. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode including Microsoft once again changing their support policy for Intel’s 6th Gen Skylake chipset, online safety resources, Windows 10 getting some security respect from an unexpected group and unboxing the Nexdock device for your small form factor PCs.
