Microsoft has begun the public testing of its next update for Windows 10 which will be known as Windows 11. It is expected to reach general availability this “holiday season” which most likely means sometime between October and December. In this new series of blog posts about the upcoming operating system update, I plan to talk about what catches my eye in Windows 11 within these preview builds.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 312 #OTP

This week we have our normal collection of updates for Windows Insiders with the latest builds and progress across a couple of development branches for Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge (Chromium). However, I begin with an explanation of the final state of my link curation process to avoid Twitter’s aggressive algorithms plus I get on my soapbox about headlines and misdirection with one privacy related story I read this week. After that it is our normal weekly run down of updates around apps, services, security, hardware, social media, and gaming. At the end of it all I mention a couple of space items that you should be aware of as the next five years are going to be crazy as NASA heads back to the moon! Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 303 #OTP

It was another busy week for Windows Insiders as we had a total of five builds for Windows 10 (19H1 and 20H1) see their way to Windows Insiders test machines. The end is closing in quickly for the upcoming April 2019 Update and we will discuss all of those build related activities. I share a little about my quick trip to Cape Canaveral to see SpaceX’s launch Crew Dragon, the first crew rated vehicle since Shuttle in 2011, plus I update you on the suspended Twitter account for counting down to Windows 7 end of life cycle support, the remaining days for Microsoft Band and associated services and finally last month’s AdDuplex numbers for Windows 10. Of course, we also have HoloLens 2 news from MWC and all kinds of other items throughout the show.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 280 #OTP

It is official! The Windows 10 Redstone 5 feature update, the sixth feature update for the operating system, will be called the October 2018 Update. This is right in track with the new naming scheme they began tis past Spring with the April 2018 Update for Redstone 4. We had a good week with build releases for Redstone 5 Fast Ring, The Windows 10 RS5 SDK and Windows Server 2018 Insider Preview however, no Skip Ahead releases for Windows 10 19H1 – the seventh feature update that is expected in the March/April 2019 timeframe. We have hardware news from IFA 2018 in Europe along with several app updates, the confirmation of Xbox All Access and a big change to home based Office 365 subscriptions. This week was busy for Windows Insiders with new client builds as we learned Skip Ahead for Windows 10 19H1 is now closed for new comers. In addition, one of the Fast Ring builds confirmed that Redstone 5 will be known officially as Windows 10 Version 1809. There was tons of app news this week with updates to several inbox and third party apps plus one instance of an app being pulled from production devices.
