Windows 8.1 has been available to the general public now for just over a month and the push from Microsoft continues to educate folks on the improvements this first big update brings to the desktop OS.

There are two new blog posts, one from yesterday and one from today, that highlight PC Settings and the built in Help and Support in the Windows 8.1 update.

New PC settings to play with (Windows Experience Blog) – in this post several features in the PC Settings area are described  including a collection of what the author describes as hidden gems.

The PC Settings areas featured in the blog post are:

  • Lock screen slide show
  • Personalization
  • Search
  • SafeSearch
  • Quiet hours
  • Corners and Edges
  • Apps View

In the second post, Getting help and support with Windows 8.1, all the focus is on the tools that are built into Windows 8.1 to help you learn how to use the updated OS.

Personally, I find this much better than what we had in the initial Windows 8 release last year.

I also learned that the on screen tips about how to navigate the OS are called Stickers.
