Xbox Live’s Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, announced today on his blog that the future of gaming and entertainment on Microsoft’s Xbox console becomes reality for the public in May.

On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE and broadcast on Spike TV if you are in the US or Canada.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future.

The live broadcast will be on Tuesday, May 21st @ 1p ET/10a PT/17:00 GMT and I suspect it will actually include the actual console instead of just a controller.

According to the blog post more info on games tied into the new consoles release will be featured at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, otherwise known as E3, in Los Angeles in June.

The Xbox 360 has been expanded over the last couple of years to not only continue to support the hard core gamers but also become an entertainment hub with the addition of all the video related apps and services to the console.

I fully expect the next Xbox console to continue in those areas and expand even further across the entire eco-system.
