Eight months ago NASA launched the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) , a rover named Curiosity, towards Mars from the Kennedy Space Center and that long trip is about to come to a dramatic conclusion with the rover landing on Mars next week.

That landing is scheduled to occur on 5 August 2012 at 10:31 PM PDT with NASA Television starting their coverage three hours earlier.

The landing is a portion of the mission that ground controllers have no control over because it only takes seven minutes and the time delay from Earth to Mars is 14 minutes.  That is why the landing has been labeled the Seven Minutes of Terror.

NASA has posted two new versions of it’s Seven Minutes of Terror video that describe the landing sequence of events when Curiosity approaches the Mars. They are the same video but narrated by two very popular actors from the Star Trek series of television and movies – Wil Wheaton and William Shatner.
