The founders of the video blogging service 12seconds has announced that they will shut down the service on 22 October.
Why? As you probably know, everything has a life cycle. 12seconds is in its twilight. After all the new product launches and attempts at a revenue model, fundraising with VCs and late night coding sessions with Jacob hunched over his monitors – it’s time to call it. It is time to end 12seconds.
However, if 12seconds had a bucket list it would have filled it up with amazing life experiences! We launched an innovative micro-vlogging system, built crazy mobile apps, created revenue with legit sponsors, we were nominated for awards and had the best users on the Internet – our beloved 12ers.
They do not say in their announcement what the exact reason is for stopping their service but feel like the service has fulfilled its purpose and lifespan. 12seconds started the early craze of mobile vlogging and sharing those on Twitter back when Twitter was in its own early days.
Whatever the reason it is a shame to see such a good service disappear from the tech landscape.
By the way, for any of you who have lots of 12seconds videos on their site, they will be providing a download tool so you can grab all of your stuff before they shut down.
