Now this one came across my desk and I could hardly believe it. Although it is a simple program I am surprised we have not heard anything at all out of Redmond that something like this was being developed/tried out. I read all the MSDN RSS Feeds and did not see anything at all there.

Anyway, it is a no kidding Download Manager that allows you to pause and restart downloads. For now it is only for http:// based downloads it appears. I know it is not the next great Operating System but still – pretty slick.

Remember when these were a necessity to get large files downloaded?  With hi-speed Internet connectivity they are not as critical but could still prove useful to many folks who have no choice but to be on slower Internet connections.

You can grab the download at the Microsoft Download Center – Microsoft Download Manager.

Here is a walk through the install and use of this handy application:

I did have to select No Proxy on the Proxy Tab to be able to download files – for some reason the Browser Settings option would not work.
