I came across this list on Jonathan Wise’s News, Ideas and Discussion blog at MSDN. It is a great list and I wanted to share it with you to see what other suggestions we could come up.
I had not thought of quite a few of these and will be poking around the mobile OS to see what other items can be pinned there:
- An app
- A person
- A OneNote note
- A Map address
- A song
- An album
- An artist (makes a double-wide tile)
- Favorite pictures
- A web-page (the tile image will be whatever is in the browser window, so zoom in to make a cool looking tile)
What other items can we add to Jonathan’s list?

Although they can be considered apps it also isn’t quite so obvious that games can also be pinned to the start screen through the games hub. This is particularly useful since they don’t appear in the standard applications list.
