Today is the other Patch Tuesday for Microsoft and it is the day they release their routine updates to Microsoft software products.  However, there was a not so routine update made available today and that was Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010.

Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates for Office 2010. This service pack includes two main categories of fixes:

  • Previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, performance, and in security.
  • All the public updates that were released through June 2011, and all the cumulative updates that were released through April 2011.

The best way to download Office 2010 SP1 is to use Windows Update.  This method can identify the version of Office 2010 you are using (32 or 64 bit) and then only download the update files that are necessary for your installation.  The entire 32 or 64 bit service pack can be downloaded separately and installed but that means downloading a 361MB file for the 32 bit version and a 439MB file for the 64 bit version.  So save yourself a few MB’s by using Windows Update and only getting the files for your setup.

However, if you’re the type that likes to download the entire file or need it to Sneaker Net to other machines then here are the download links to the various elements of the service pack:
