Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 199 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 199 of Observed.Tech. It is hard to believe I will be recording the 200th episode of Observed Tech soon. It has been a long journey, which you can read about, but it has been a lot of fun and a terrific learning experience. Thanks for coming along for the ride! In today’s show there is plenty of Windows 10 news as we have seen nine total builds released in the month of June alone (5 for PC and 4 for Mobile). The surprising thing is with only five weeks until the expected release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update we have seen two major features added in the last two builds (14367 and 14371). I talk about those features at length and what they mean for Windows 10 users down the road. We are also seeing a steady stream of app updates for the Universal Windows Platform on Windows 10 so I share some of the ones which have caught my eye recently. I also talk about the upgraded Intel RealSense DevKit Camera I recently received, the SR300, and how it improves Windows Hello while we continue to wait on the first third party USB Windows Hello cameras. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 198 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 198 of Observed Tech. This week we lock in our plans for a mid-week recording of the show instead of Monday mornings so that we can bring you more of the latest news from the first couple of days in a new week. It turns out this week was made for this plan because we had big acquisition news from Microsoft first thing Monday morning when they announced their $26.2 billion dollar purchase of LinkedIn. Then, within just a few hours, we had the Xbox E3 Briefing where we heard about new hardware (Xbox One S and Project Scorpio) and a great gaming lineup including one of my favorites Forza Horizon 3. About 30 minutes after Microsoft got started at E3, Apple took to the stage for their annual WWDC Keynote in San Francisco to unveil updates across their line of OS’s. Including in these announcements was the name change for their desktop operating system from OS X to macOS. In addition to a collection of links out to those areas I share app news on the Windows platform for those arriving and those departing plus plenty of information about the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and where everything stands as we get nearer to the expected release of Microsoft next major Windows 10 Update in July. I give you some hands on with new UI changes for Cortana, the latest builds of Windows 10 in the Redstone development branch and the greater control admins will have over key areas of the Anniversary Update. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 197 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 197 of Observed Tech. As we approach our 200th episode of Observed Tech I share some plans to mark the milestone including a very cool domain name for the show and plans for a new show portal. Among some of the things covered in this episode I discuss leadership changes at the top of the Windows Insider Program, a move by users to ask the EFF to pursue an investigation into Windows 10, the return of Bank of America to the Windows platform and what you can do if there is not an app available on Windows 10 Mobile for certain services. I then touch on Xbox and next week’s E3 events out in Los Angeles and what we can expect from Microsoft as the huge entertainment show kicks off with the companies big press conference on Monday. COMPUTEX 2016 has wrapped but it saw a huge push in the area of PCs of all types including high end devices for gaming/virtual reality along with news relating to Windows 10 and Windows Holographic. You can watch the entire keynote online now and there is a link over on the show notes page. There is also plenty of Windows 10 news and where things are moving as we get in the window leading up to the release of the Anniversary Update in July. I also share my thoughts on how builds might pan out over the next few weeks based on the past preparations for major Windows 10 releases last November and July. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 196 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 196 of Observed Tech. We are less than two months away from the expected release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update in late July so there is plenty to keep talking about in the Windows 10 world. Last week Windows Insiders received Build 14352 for testing that introduced a couple new features to help with interaction with Cortana and keeping your system secure. There was also a brief appearance for a LastPass browser extension for Microsoft Edge but it has been made unavailable now for some reason. I must admit it was nice to have that extension while it lasted. I share some interesting market share stats for Windows 7 and Windows 10 including comparing their numbers between a work day and a weekend day off. The results just might surprise you. Also covered in this show are some new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps including the Remote Desktop that is now out of preview and has Continuum support plus a new UWP app called Hacked that alerts you if your email address shows up in a security breach. The last app related discussion is about a request from a pair of app developers asking everyone to crowdfund them for $10,000 to cover two months of expenses while they convert their app into a UWP version. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 195 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 195 of Observed Tech. It is good to be back behind the mike after this six week hiatus and I give you an update on what has been happening over the last month and a half to get everyone up to speed. I then get to jump in and talk about the latest and greatest stuff happening in tech that I have been keeping an eye on. Of course, no other subject kicks off an episode of Observed Tech better then Windows 10 and where we are on the latest builds for testers and those on the current branch release. After that I delve into Windows mobile and where we are on both the OS, app and hardware aspect of things. Big news tied to this is the sale of Microsoft’s feature phone business and there official comments about the future of Windows 10 for mobile and the current line of Lumia phones. There has also been quite a few new/updated Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps released. They bring new functionality to services like OneDrive, the Windows Store and the Feedback Hub which is now available to all Windows 10 users so they can submit feedback to Microsoft on the new OS. Last week there was a big Microsoft Band update that includes a new hiking activity tile and a new desktop version of the Microsoft Health UWP app so we have that covered as well. Finally we share some great resources about Windows as a Service, Microsoft Azure, OneNote 2016 and a convenience roll up for Windows 7/8.1 users that brings hundreds of updates into a consolidated package for those older operating system. Finally I share news about new logos and missions for SuperSite: Windows and IT Pro: Windows and the fact that next week I will be using an iPhone 5c for two weeks of immersion into iOS and the Microsoft ecosystem on the Apple platform. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
