Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 250 #OTP
Welcome to the 250th Episode of Observed Tech. I started this podcast in November 2009 with a beta episode that was about five minutes long to test my hardware setup. It has taken a while to get here but I value this milestone because of all the people who have listened to an episode of Observed Tech. Whether this is your first episode or your 250th – thanks for making this journey a lot of fun over the last nine years! In this episode I discuss the final steps that occurred earlier this week for the legacy Penton sites I wrote for and their full move to IT Pro Today and our new centralized tech portal for Informa/KNect365. You can use my author page at the new site to keep up with what I am writing over there. As for content – as the name suggests – our move is more towards IT Pros and similar roles in business and enterprises. We will still be covering Windows 10 and hardware but expanding with more cross platform coverage for mobile, desktop and the cloud. I then introduce you to someone who has been hanging out in my Home Office since this past July and share a little about that experience. Of course, there is plenty of Microsoft, Windows, and Xbox news across our rundown of the headlines from the past week. Be sure to listen all the way to the end so you do not miss anything in those and all the other news tidbits that I pulled together for you this week. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 249 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 249 of Observed Tech. This is our special edition everything you wanted to know about the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, new Surface Book 2 hardware, and the Wi-Fi security threat that was recently made public. We are coming to you this episode on a Wednesday because all the Microsoft related software and hardware news is now public after mandatory embargoes lifted earlier this week. That means I can freely talk about my trip to New York City last week for a press briefing from Microsoft without spilling the beans inadvertently. We will catch up on the shipping release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, how you can get the update right now, and run over several of the system highlights for this fourth major feature update for Windows 10. I also spend a little bit of time talking about the recently disclosed Wi-Fi WPA2 vulnerability and will discuss my approach to dealing with it in the short and long term. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 248 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 248 of Observed Tech. In this weeks show we talk about the final stages before the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update, what build we believe is the final one, and how this last week before the global release of the fourth feature update for Windows 10 will play out. The big news of the week was Microsoft’s withdrawal from the consumer market as they decide to drop Groove Music Pass and partner with Spotify for premium music streaming on Windows 10 devices. While the move upset many and ignited discussions about Microsoft’s non-consumer approach, I found Spotify to be a huge upgrade to Groove. If not for Microsoft’s move, I might not have ever learned about the Spotify experience. In mobile Microsoft news we talk the new Microsoft Launcher for Android and Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android and how they tie into Microsoft’s vision of Windows Timeline. Of course there are plenty of other tidbits sprinkled throughout the show so listen all the way to the end. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 247 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 247 of Observed Tech. This is our post Microsoft Ignite Wrap Up Show, as we talk about some of the news, trends, and impressions from the week long mega-conference. The folks in Central Florida, despite only having experiences Hurricane Irma a couple weeks earlier, did a terrific job and the event felt like it was pretty successful overall despite the logistics of handing over 30,000 attendees between Ignite and Envision. There was plenty of service and product related news so we will run down some of that and also catch you up on all of the Windows 10 activity that happened during Ignite. The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is scheduled to be released two weeks from tomorrow. Our normal assortment of news on other topics will return to the show next week after we wrap up Microsoft Ignite in this one. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 246 #OTP
Welcome to Episode 246 of Observed Tech. In this show we talk about Satya Nadella and his leadership at Microsoft as CEO on the even of Ignite and the release of his new book Hit Refresh which will come out on 26 September. We also discuss the upcoming availability of hardware and software to finally make the Windows Mixed Reality Portal available on the Fall Creators Update which is scheduled to be released in just a few weeks. Speaking of the Fall Creators Update, there was plenty of action this week in the Redstone 3 testing arena as Microsoft speeds up the pace of new builds to get ready for this updates release on 17 October 2017. This week we had three new builds, a new build designated for Slow Ring and even a new Slow Ring build for Windows 10 Mobile. Towards the end we talk about the crazy world of Trojans and security concerns when someone gets malicious code into your software and uses your own digital certificates to validate it as part of the code. Of course, there is other news relating to apps and services from Microsoft for Windows 10 and plenty of other tidbits across a wide range of tech subjects throughout the show so be sure to listen all the way until the end. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
