This week there was a lot happening in the Microsoft tech world. First, we had the public release of the Microsoft Edge Developer and Canary builds of the company’s new Chromium-based browser on Monday. A couple of hours later they then opened up the Windows Insiders Release Preview ring with Build 18362 of the May 2019 Update aka 19H1. Then mid-week, they merged the Skip Ahead 20H1 ring back to the Fast Ring and made Build 18875 available for testers. Pretty much exactly as we predicted and discussed during last week’s show.

It is Super Bowl Sunday here in the U.S. and I have a Super edition of Observed Tech for you because there was a lot of news this past week across a broad range of subjects. Windows Insiders received a new Fast Ring build for Windows 10 (19H1) and with the opening of the Skip Ahead ring testers got to opt into the prerelease branch to get the first development build of Windows 10 (19H2). I explain how things will work moving forward with a Fast and Skip Ahead Ring now receiving builds. Of course we also have information about financial results for the latest quarter from Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon and all continue to make progress in their own unique approaches. Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 280 #OTP

It is official! The Windows 10 Redstone 5 feature update, the sixth feature update for the operating system, will be called the October 2018 Update. This is right in track with the new naming scheme they began tis past Spring with the April 2018 Update for Redstone 4. We had a good week with build releases for Redstone 5 Fast Ring, The Windows 10 RS5 SDK and Windows Server 2018 Insider Preview however, no Skip Ahead releases for Windows 10 19H1 – the seventh feature update that is expected in the March/April 2019 timeframe. We have hardware news from IFA 2018 in Europe along with several app updates, the confirmation of Xbox All Access and a big change to home based Office 365 subscriptions. Of course, there are all kinds of tidbits sprinkled throughout the show so be sure you listen all the way until the end. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
