Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 272 #OTP

In this show I talk about the upcoming three year anniversary of the release of Windows 10 and the journey to where we stand today with the operating system. There have certainly been both successes and hiccups along the way so I will cover the various milestones we have seen. I will also talk about the beginning of the Windows Insider Program, the five feature updates we have seen so far and then I share some ideas I have that could help with the testing of future feature updates. Stability has been a challenge over the last few feature updates and a slight shift in the testing approach might help remedy some of those issues. Suffice it to say that this is a jam packed show so listen all the way to the end.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 255 #OTP

Welcome to episode 255 of Observed Tech and our first new episode of 2018! After my annual Consumer Electronics Show trip to Las Vegas and the subsequent bout of CES Crud – I am back behind the microphone to get 2018 started finally for the Observed Tech PODCAST. In this episode we catch up on some final notes from CES itself and then talk about where things are with Windows 10 and its current development branch Redstone 4. The first month of the year has included a couple of new build releases on both the client and server sides for what will be Windows 10 Version 1803, aka the March 2018 Feature Update, plus we talk about how well the Fall Creators Update is doing in its roll out. Then we discuss what the future might hold for Windows in the form of Andromeda and Polaris – rumored hardware and software that builds upon Microsoft’s modern work on the operating system. There is also late breaking news about Windows 10, new variations of the operating system, and S Mode coming to most versions of Windows 10. Otherwise, there are other news headlines through the show so be sure to listen all the way until the end and not miss anything. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!

Welcome to Episode 234 of Observed.Tech. We start off with an update about builds for this past week for Windows Insiders, one mobile update and nothing for desktops, and some interesting information about the under the hood update/upgrade process for Windows 10. I then discuss another update for unsupported Windows operating systems XP and Vista, how Microsoft is adding even more products to their rapid release cycle of two feature updates per year, and Intel’s concern about Microsoft emulating x86 on devices that will run Windows 10 on ARM so that desktop software will run on these battery efficient devices. Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 230 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 230 of Observed.Tech. It is a short week for this episode of the podcast because I only just recorded episode 229 four days ago but that was a necessity after my trip to Build 2017 in Seattle to get caught up. We get back on track with our Saturday morning recording sessions today and cover some follow up items from Build and the WannaCry Malware episode among other things. This past week we saw a huge update to OneNote that now brings a common UI across all of the platforms it is on from PC to iOS, Android, and the web plus I tell you about the super secret experimental features option you can turn on to try out new features before they go final. We catch up on the latest build of Windows 10 Redstone 3, aka the Fall Creators Update, and also talk more about wider access to Story Remix and the new Photos app on all of your Windows 10 devices. Of course, the rumors about next week’s Shanghai event now include leaked images of the Surface hardware that is supposedly going to be launched next week so we talk a little about that as well. Elsewhere you will find tidbits about Linux on Windows 10 S, Xbox One console updates, Twitter and your data privacy, crowdfunding platforms cracking down on risky campaigns, going underground at Microsoft, and a few updates from Google I/O this past week. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!

Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 228 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 228 of Observed.Tech. No surprises this week as I spend the vast majority of this show talking about Microsoft’s big education event that happened this past week in New York City. That means discussing the new Surface Laptop, Windows 10 S, Office 365 for Education with Microsoft Teams, Minecraft for Education and its new add-on Code Builder. I did jump up on my soapbox early about some coverage I saw this week after the event that just bugged me to no end and therefore I had to speak up. I promise it only lasts for a few minutes and then I move on! However, after all of that we did get new Redstone 3 and Feature 2 builds for PCs and Mobile devices late in the week so they get time in the sun along with more apps showing up on Fast Ring builds that are giving us a closer look at Project NEON and its popular transparency/translucence in the app UI. Then finally I spend some time talking about Build 2017, Microsoft’s annual developer focused/centric conference that is being held in Seattle from 10 to 12 May. I review some of the sessions I think are going to have a big impact on consumers plus I will be out in Seattle for all the activities to cover it for our Penton Tech Channel sites. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
