Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 288 #OTP

Once again we are talking about the still to happen re-release of the October 2018 Update. I shared my thoughts on the one thing that could make things much clearer for everyone involved. I also share where we are at with current releases in the Windows Insider Program including potentially new code names for future feature updates after the release of Windows 10 19H1 next year. We then catch up on the normal collection of progress and new features/capabilities for several apps from the Microsoft Store and then talk about the looming end of life for Windows 7 and a new countdown timer that has appeared on the web. We also discuss the big Apple hardware announcements this past week along with Xbox related gaming news, some Spotify growth and benefits information, and changes to Flickr free accounts. There are other tidbits sprinkled throughout the show, so be sure to listen all the way until the end to catch everything!

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 138 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 138. Getting back into a normal Wednesday recording routine today with this new episode to talk about some of the headlines in tech news. I start off by talking a little bit about two classes I am currently enrolled in for school – Multimedia Development which uses Adobe Flash as a core platform and Web Page Development. I am getting to refine quite a few skills I have vaguely learned over the years thru trial and error so they have been fun to participate in these courses. Well worth the effort to go back to school. I then discuss the adventure that has been WP 8.1 Developer Preview, reverting to WP 8, upgrading to WP 8.1 and Cyan and then the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 Update. Yes, it is as confusing as it reads! On top of those updates there is the issue around use of a preview and the impact that can have on folks even though they agreed to jump off that cliff voluntarily. Some of the other areas I covered during this episode are Windows Phone usage numbers, Finding an unexpected memory on an Xbox, PC sales forecast to grow, People must trust tech to use it, OneNote goes cross platform to Amazon Fire and gets updated on iOS devices, Amazon shares drop upon debut of their Fire Phone, Amazon’s cloud growth scaring investors, Yammer now belongs to Office 365, More Microsoft Stores on the way, Windows Desktop and Windows RT, Laywoman review of Surface Pro 3, Cortana vs Siri is the new PC vs Mac, Microsoft raided in China, Kids App Store, Nokia X phones not quite dead yet, Family Plan Wars, Selfie phone from Microsoft, Soft-resetting a Windows Phone, Microsoft starting to build Windows Phone technically speaking, Uber and FitBit official apps land on Windows Phone, Facebook diverging their app capabilities like Foursquare did, Cortana knows Foursquare locations, The morality of in app purchases, Universal Apps, USAA using IBM’s Watson as a military veterans advisor, Atari Landfill documentary trailer, EA Access, HBO web based subscriptions, Twitter grows big time in last quarter, Ballmer purchase of Clippers close to completion, Mars rover sets distance record among extraterrestrial machines, Cloud storage nightmare with Box for one customer and Best Buy CEO interview highlights. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 134 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 134. This is the show where one of my main lead off items is Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference from earlier this week – yes it really is! As the show Starts Up I talk about a new writing focused site called Medium and mention a few details from Apple’s WWDC that began on Monday including some very familiar features and at least one significant product naming issue. Last week the Microsoft Store began offering a nice military discount and I found a really superb discount for the annual Office 365 Home subscriptions for military members and veterans. The reviews continue to trickle in for the Surface Pro 3 including posts focused just on the unique pen and the speakers. COMPUTEX has begun in Taiwan and as expected we are seeing a lot of new devices from manufacturers although some of the form factors are very familiar. In the middle part of the show you will find the normal collection of news I keep an eye on each week including items relating to Microsoft, Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Security, Cloud, Hardware, Apps, Services, Xbox, Internet Explorer and Social Media. As I wrap up the show and do the normal Shut Down I talk about device operating systems, Apple’s poke at the installed base of Windows, Harry McCracken’s life after TIME with Technologizer 3.0, USS ARIZONA’s new 3D scan, NFL Network coming to streaming devices, hurricane season, MVP’s of Xbox and helping your dad stay safe this Father’s Day. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
