Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 287 #OTP

We start off by talking about the latest build in the Windows 10 19H1 development branch and the stagnant status of the re-release process for the October 2018 Update. Currently that feature update is still being tested by Slow and Release Preview Ring Insiders. Another issue, this time about copying and pasting files from a compressed archive, now has to be fixed and likely tested as well. This was earnings week and Microsoft had a big one setting records for revenue along with big year over year gains in most areas across the company. This performance even lifted Microsoft up into position as the second most valuable company in the United States. Of course, we have app news, developer updates, security related items, and all kinds of other tidbits so be sure to listen all the way until the end of the show to catch everything.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 272 #OTP

In this show I talk about the upcoming three year anniversary of the release of Windows 10 and the journey to where we stand today with the operating system. There have certainly been both successes and hiccups along the way so I will cover the various milestones we have seen. I will also talk about the beginning of the Windows Insider Program, the five feature updates we have seen so far and then I share some ideas I have that could help with the testing of future feature updates. Stability has been a challenge over the last few feature updates and a slight shift in the testing approach might help remedy some of those issues. Suffice it to say that this is a jam packed show so listen all the way to the end.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 260 #OTP

Welcome to episode 260 of Observed Tech. This week we focus on the big news that recently came out of Redmond – the massive reorganization at Microsoft which includes the departure of Windows CVP Terry Myerson and the splitting up of the Windows team across two engineering groups. This change, which places Windows at least two leadership layers below the CEO, is significant as the role of Windows at Microsoft continues to change. No longer is Windows the bread and butter of the software giant – now it is all about the cloud, artificial intelligence, and edge computing. Prior to diving into my take and summary of this realignment, I catch everyone up on the latest when it comes to Redstone 4, Redstone 5, and what we should be expecting next as this upcoming feature update gets ready for general availability. Normally I would have several other headlines in an episode of the show but since this is focused on the reorganization the only outside item on the agenda is about the new DNS service from Cloudflare and APNIC. The service, which was announced on April Fool’s Day but wasn’t a joke, promises faster DNS translation and privacy around your DNS lookups/browsing. I already have it setup across my home network and so far it is proving to be quite fast and improving my overall browsing experience. Lastly, my apologies for the interruptions due to my allergy related cough a few times in this episode. I am really hoping this sorts itself out in the next few days. I appreciate your patience and as always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!
