Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 243 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 243 of Observed Tech. It has taken two weeks to get this episode recorded so it is a mixture of the stuff I had previously earmarked for last week combined with new items from the past week. There is a lot of Windows 10 news – even more than normal – as we finally learn the launch date for the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update from Microsoft at IFA 2017. I also walk you through all of the testing build activity for Redstone 3 and 4 over the last two weeks. It is almost enough to fill its own episode of the show. Speaking of IFA 2017 – there was a lot of news on the hardware side of things for Windows 10 so we walk through those announcements as well. We even have a good collection of Xbox related news for you in this show. Of course, there is other news relating to apps and services from Microsoft for Windows 10 and plenty of other tidbits across a wide range of tech subjects throughout the show so be sure to listen all the way until the end. As always enjoy the show and thanks again for listening!

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 137 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 137. Has it really been nearly a month since my last show? As I was recording the podcast and mentioning missing a couple of shows I thought it had been about three weeks but Episode 136 was back on 25 July. No wonder it felt so good to be back in front of the mike talking to you about tech stuff! The unintended hiatus, which I explained on the show, also resulted in me taking a different approach to my list of items to talk about. You will find the volume of items is greatly reduced and I spent much more time on each area/story. I even strayed off while watching Twitter and discussed some breaking news stuff as well. Let me know what you think of the re-focusing of the shows format. Amongst the things discussed on the show Stopping Facebook’s automatic video playing, Microsoft as the challenger, Layoffs at Microsoft, 4th Quarter FY14 Microsoft Earnings report, Nokia acquisitions help and hurt on the big picture at Microsoft, Microsoft outselling Apple last quarter in the phone market, Lumia 530 announcement and Lumia 930 reviews, No Jen Taylor voiced Cortana outside of the US, Tracking the Cyan Windows Phone 8.1 Update, Xbox One/360 console sales, Surface Mini was shelved, What One Windows really means, Streamlining Xbox Music & Video and confirmation they are here to stay from Joe Belfiore, Cloud Booms at Microsoft, Office 365 subscriptions at 5.6 million now, OneDrive storage bumps for Office 365 subscribers and free users, Updated iOS and Windows Phone apps for OneDrive, Windows 8.1 update for OneDrive, Microsoft announces one big annual tradeshow, Microsoft bolsters consumer channels by grabbing Best Buy executive, Amazon Fire disappoints most reviewers, Microsoft brings Skype to Amazon Fire phone, Amazon Prime Music expands collection, YouTube head of music quits, Microsoft being sued by Nevada tech firm concerning patent licensing, Bing cast search tip, Free vs Paid vs Subscriptions when it comes to 3rd party apps, Tweetium arrives on Windows Phone, Official Microsoft Twitter account list and @HiddenCash on Twitter. Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 133 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 133 – another information dense episode as our friend and fellow MVP Joost van Schaik describes the podcast. Some really good gouge in the last few days concerning Surface Pro 3 after the Surface Team did a Reddit IAmA yesterday and more in depth info and reviews are hitting tech sites as well. Unfortunately, data breaches continue to dominate the headlines with eBay at the top of the list. Also, a registry hack to get Windows XP updates unofficially goes public and gets the reaction you should expect from Microsoft. I am genuinely concerned about the number of people who blatantly want to stay on a 13 year old operating system and the professionals who are recommending it. The show Starts Up with an update on my Rocket Launches app for Windows Phone, a possible Windows Phone Store clean up in progress, the Camelopardalids Meteor Shower, a registry hack for updates on Windows XP, Redbox pulling kiosks, Sailor convicted of hacking on an aircraft carrier, Adobe and security, recycling your old electronics, Microsoft shuffling technical blogs, Windows 8.1 with Bing and a possible Surface branded Miracast dongle. In the central part of the show you will find the typical news we keep an eye on each week with items relating to Microsoft, Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Security, Cloud, Hardware, Apps, Xbox and Social Media. In addition to those I also include a special section on the recently announced Surface Pro 3 and more about the un-announced Surface Mini. Bringing the show to a close in the Shut Down segment I discuss an offer of training and employment for women from Code Fellows, Infobesity, Migrating from Windows XP, iPad Mini, Windows and Windows Phone app stats, NASA’s Global Selfie, pictures of old tech and an $85,000 hoverbike. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 132 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 132 – the Surface Edition. Yesterday was Microsoft’s big Surface announcement in New York City and by big I mean they went big and not small as the rumors were indicating. I lead the show off with some of my impressions of the event and Surface Pro 3 however, there is an interesting twist to the Surface Mini being a no-show so I talk about that during the show as well. I also spend some time talking about building apps in the updated Windows App Studio and an issue that frustrated me for about 24 hours trying to get the apps certified. As I get things going in the Start Up section I discuss Lenovo over taking Apple in PC sales, Emory University and their re-format headache, data caps, rumored iPad split-screen multi-tasking, Windows Phone Dev Center adds 10 new languages, Sony still beating Microsoft in the month to month console skirmishes, Cortana coming to Windows, a TV renaissance and the Google Adsense fraud lawsuit. The usual round up of news items fill the middle of the show as always because I do keep an eye on those areas every day. You will find tidbits and opinions relating to Microsoft, Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Security, Cloud, Internet Explorer, Services, Hardware, Apps, Xbox and Social Media in that part of the show. During Shut Down I dive into some other interesting items you should check out including Google pulling another public feature, securing your WordPress based website, Windows XP Enterprise market share finally below 10%, coding as a game, the Florida Star Trek mansion is for sale, Titanfall companion app available on top 3 mobile platforms, the Internet of your things, latest app counts in Windows and Windows Phone store, Michael Jackson’s hologram and Microsoft’s retreat from announcing Surface Mini. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
