Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 293 #OTP

We kick this show off by talking about what was thought to be a privacy violation with Windows 10 and turned out to be inconsistent naming of data which is collected. Next up we touch base on the latest information coming out of Redmond around a potential Microsoft 365 Consumer based subscription and how that might be configured/set-up. On the Windows Insider front, we had a new build this week that continues Microsoft’s efforts to make the UI cleaner and more efficient for end users. Including among the changes is some A/B testing of a split between Search and Cortana on the Taskbar plus a new information bar header in Windows Settings. Of course, the show is full of other information, stories, and other tidbits so be sure to listen all the way until the end.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 284 #OTP

We were supposed to be kicking this show off with all the details around the launch of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update along with the news from the Microsoft hardware/software event held in New York City this past week. We will still talk about those events however, it will be tempered with the fact that this sixth feature update’s roll out has been halted by Microsoft. We will discuss the reasons behind that abrupt change and other aspects of the roll out. Still, despite that breaking news from late last week about this update, the announcements made at the New York City event were significant. What we heard and saw about new hardware and software from Microsoft were important elements of the companies strategy moving forward and answers a few questions about the future.

Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 201 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 201 of Observed.Tech! As we begin our next century of shows this one gets started reviewing some of the background about the bidding war that happened between Microsoft, Salesforce and Google for LinkedIn which Microsoft ultimately won. They even brought in the big kahuna, in the form of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, to help move things along to ultimately close the deal. Next I discuss how things will change for upgrades to Windows 10 after the free upgrade deal ends on 29 July 2016 plus more about the latest features arriving in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update which arrives on 02 August. Of course, there are also items to mention like the new and free Skype Meetings service, lots of great tutorials for developers to build apps that take advantage of new features in Windows 10, upcoming hardware that is focused on Windows 10 including the likely Surface branded All In One device. I run down some new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps for Windows 10 and also mention a few that have decided to leave the platform including CNN and their ancient Windows Phone 8.1 app that still labels Microsoft’s cloud storage as SkyDrive. There are a couple of tips for you on how to reset individual Windows Store apps and also how you can migrate your Evernote data into OneNote fast and easy to avoid their new limitations for free accounts. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode including Xbox hardware and software news, EA Access updates, a major malware attack on Android devices, a massive recall of hover boards that do not really hover plus a big anti-malware/virus company acquisition/merger. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening!

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 176 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 176 of Observed Tech. In this show we take a look at Microsoft’s very solid Q1 2016 financial quarter which was announced last week and resulted in the companies stock reaching all time highs in trading. Along with that positive news was info about 1,000 jobs that were cut in the companies continuing effort to become more efficient and cost effective. We also learned last week that Bing is finally profitable for the Redmond company and is a key element in so many other areas for Microsoft and a reason for its success. Of course, what show would be complete without some Windows 10 related news about mobile, desktop and console builds of the new operating system so that is in this episode as well. To top things off I talk about the mobile crossroads I have reached with Android and Windows 10 Mobile/Windows Phone and how that is impacting my future mobile choices. No show next week as I will be in Redmond on the Microsoft Campus for the annual MVP Summit but I will bring you as much public information as I can throughout the week. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
