Welcome to Episode 176 of Observed Tech. In this show we take a look at Microsoft’s very solid Q1 2016 financial quarter which was announced last week and resulted in the companies stock reaching all time highs in trading. Along with that positive news was info about 1,000 jobs that were cut in the companies continuing effort to become more efficient and cost effective. We also learned last week that Bing is finally profitable for the Redmond company and is a key element in so many other areas for Microsoft and a reason for its success. Of course, what show would be complete without some Windows 10 related news about mobile, desktop and console builds of the new operating system so that is in this episode as well. To top things off I talk about the mobile crossroads I have reached with Android and Windows 10 Mobile/Windows Phone and how that is impacting my future mobile choices. No show next week as I will be in Redmond on the Microsoft Campus for the annual MVP Summit but I will bring you as much public information as I can throughout the week. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Welcome to Episode 151. I have been away for two weeks due to travel and so it is great to be back on the mike and talking to you about the latest tech news. The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Summit was a great week of seeing old friends and making new ones. Meetings and presentations with various product groups were off the charts and the vibe around Microsoft felt very different on this trip compared to the 3 previous MVP Summit’s I have attended. It is an exciting time to be keeping an eye on Microsoft. I share some of my experience at Summit and also talk about the latest tech news tidbits of the last week or so. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
Welcome to Episode 134. This is the show where one of my main lead off items is Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference from earlier this week – yes it really is! As the show Starts Up I talk about a new writing focused site called Medium and mention a few details from Apple’s WWDC that began on Monday including some very familiar features and at least one significant product naming issue. Last week the Microsoft Store began offering a nice military discount and I found a really superb discount for the annual Office 365 Home subscriptions for military members and veterans. The reviews continue to trickle in for the Surface Pro 3 including posts focused just on the unique pen and the speakers. COMPUTEX has begun in Taiwan and as expected we are seeing a lot of new devices from manufacturers although some of the form factors are very familiar. In the middle part of the show you will find the normal collection of news I keep an eye on each week including items relating to Microsoft, Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Security, Cloud, Hardware, Apps, Services, Xbox, Internet Explorer and Social Media. As I wrap up the show and do the normal Shut Down I talk about device operating systems, Apple’s poke at the installed base of Windows, Harry McCracken’s life after TIME with Technologizer 3.0, USS ARIZONA’s new 3D scan, NFL Network coming to streaming devices, hurricane season, MVP’s of Xbox and helping your dad stay safe this Father’s Day. Until next time enjoy the show and thanks for listening.
