Latest on Edge (Chromium) Preview – October 2019

Microsoft continues the development of their updated Edge web browser that is based on Chromium. Edge Insiders have access to three development channels depending on the level of risk they are willing to take on during testing of the new browser. Available since April, the new browser is quickly adopting a strong feature set so we catch up on some of those key enhancements.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 315 #OTP

This week we delayed recording the show until after Microsoft’s big Xbox E3 Media Briefing was held yesterday afternoon. So this show has a lot of stuff related to those announcements from Los Angeles, That gets us caught up with the new game pass options for both console and PC, upcoming games, hardware, and streaming technology plus lots of other gaming related items such as project Scarlett and Project xCloud. Of course, I still catch you up on the latest for Windows Insiders and where we stand with the continued development of the 20H1 feature update for next year and the wait for the first bits of 19H2 for this fall. Scattered throughout the show I have some of the details about Apple’s WWDC 2019 announcements, browser updates, and a little low earth orbit news from NASA.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 309 #OTP

This week there was a lot happening in the Microsoft tech world. First, we had the public release of the Microsoft Edge Developer and Canary builds of the company’s new Chromium-based browser on Monday. A couple of hours later they then opened up the Windows Insiders Release Preview ring with Build 18362 of the May 2019 Update aka 19H1. Then mid-week, they merged the Skip Ahead 20H1 ring back to the Fast Ring and made Build 18875 available for testers. Pretty much exactly as we predicted and discussed during last week’s show.

The Windows 10 (19H1) Build 18323 release also marked a significant milestone in the seventh feature updates development cycle and I break that all down for you to start the show off. We then talk about the future of the Windows Insiders Program, including what this upcoming feature update is likely to be called, updates for the retail release of Windows 10, and a rundown of some of the key improvements in the 19H1 update that is expected in April 2019.
