Faith, Tech, and Space (Episode 14)

There is plenty of news across our three-fold spectrum for this episode. I wrap up details about the PC build I recently completed and provide some schedule updates for my continued diaconate formation as we prepare for year two. In tech, new builds across the board for Windows and Edge Insiders, headlines from Microsoft, Apple (and Epic Games & WordPress), and Google among many others. In gaming news, there has been a run on joysticks and yokes thanks to the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and confirmation of the Xbox Series S console thanks to a controller leak. In space there is news from NASA, ULA, and SpaceX as they continue to launch rockets despite the pandemic impacting operations. I close with an upcoming drama from Netflix on the human toll during a manned mission to Mars and Amazon’s potential plan to take over empty stores at malls to help with product distribution.

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 279 #OTP

This week’s show begins with a stroll down memory lane to about 23 years ago when Windows 95 was released to the public. It corresponds with the early beginnings of this very website and where I am today. Next we talk about Windows Insidering with new Redstone 5 Fast Ring Builds, two of them this week once again, as we get closer to the public release of what is expected to be called the October 2018 Update. We also have news about a new Office 365/Microsoft 365 merged roadmap before Ignite next month and a bunch of Xbox related news from Gamescom in Europe this past week. Of course, those are just snapshots into the content in this weeks show so be sure to listen all the way until the end for all the details. As always, thanks for listening.

Observed.Tech PODCAST Episode 210 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 210 of Observed.Tech! After a month of a couple of travel and catching up cycles I am finally back behind the microphone in my own recording studio and it felt great to get cranked back up again. However, that did not mean I was not doing any podcasting over the last four weeks – it just meant I was a guest on other shows like the New Zealand Tech Podcast with Paul Spain, the MS Power User Podcast with Vernon Smith, and The Surface Smiths Podcast with Colin and David Smith (no relation by the way). It was great to meet those folks and sit down with them in person to talk tech. The crazy travel schedule doesn’t end though as I talk about heading to NYC next week for Microsoft’s Windows 10 event and what might come of that. Plus the Office event that is now scheduled for the following week, also in NYC, and of course my annual trek out to Redmond and the Microsoft Campus for the MVP Summit at the beginning of November. After catching everyone up with my schedule madness I dove into the headlines of the last week or so including an update on the progress of Windows 10 Redstone 2 development builds and the steady pace of build releases each week. These latest builds have added quite a few new features and have me itching to install them on the Surface Book but I am resisting that urge for now. Of course, I also spend some time talking about apps coming and going from the Windows 10 platform and other companies like Amazon expanding their Prime subscription offerings to make their annual $99 fee even more of a bargain. As always, you can expect plenty of other tidbits throughout the episode including Xbox now being the best selling console in the US for three months in a row, the awesome and beautiful Forza Horizon 3, Outlook.com Premium Preview availability, Windows Hello peripherals, and a US Navy ship I would go back on active duty to serve on just to call the commanding officer “Captain Kirk”. Enjoy the show and thanks for listening!

Observed Tech PODCAST Episode 184 #OTP

Welcome to Episode 184 of Observed Tech – the final show of 2015! In this last show of the year, I start out talking about sharing hotel rooms with strangers, Amazon Prime adding lots of new customers over the holidays, Star Wars: The Force Awakens reaching$1 billion in box office sales and a price hike plus delivery delay for the Surface Hub. One of the best items of news in the Microsoft world last week was the appearance of Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Chris Caposella on the Windows Weekly podcast and his discussion along several fronts including mobile hardware such as Lumia 650 and Surface Phone, Windows 10 upgrades, cultural changes at the company, the hit and miss of the Xbox One Elite Controller plus the status of Microsoft vs Amazon on the cloud front. Also in the line up is the arrival of more apps which support the Universal Windows Platform, kind of free Windows 10 product keys, deadline for Microsoft contract workers, misinterpreted Windows 10 patches, why government agencies should upgrade to Windows 10 and firmware updates for Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Of course last week also saw the release of 13 Beatles albums to streaming services including Groove Music on Windows 10, Bing search engine growth, taking out Man in the Middle ad injection and browser hijacking, new updates for Windows App Studio and deploying Windows 10 at Microsoft. There are plenty of other items sprinkled throughout the show so until next time enjoy and thanks for listening.
