This week Microsoft has launched the latest beta for their Cortana digital assistant on Android & iOS devices.
With the 3.0 update, Microsoft has overhauled the user interface refreshing its older look and it gives the app a fresh modern look.
On my initial run through the app, it appears all the same functionality is still there so you still have settings for the Notebook, Settings, Reminders, Lists, and Music. Plus, the device control page is there with its own refreshed look and UI to help you control those devices you have connected using your Microsoft Account and Cortana.
Devices currently available to connect and setup in the app include:
- Harman Kardon Invoke
- Surface Headphones
- GLAS Smart Thermostat
- Amazon Alexa
When you open the app you get your default Upcoming page that shows the weather, appointments, news items, and other items you have selected to be displayed.
Across the bottom of the app there are three icons: Discover, Upcoming, and Devices to navigate through the app and find your information.
Microsoft is highlighting these items for the new update:
- An update to the UI enabling conversational experiences with Cortana and a new place to manage and set up your Cortana devices
- Listen to music and podcasts on the go. Just ask Cortana to play your favorite tunes and podcasts with Spotify, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn on your phone or through a paired Bluetooth device
- Stay organized and on task. Set reminders, timers and create meetings with your voice
- Join your next Skype or Teams meeting by simply asking Cortana. You can also manage your calendar or send a quick email by voice
I have grabbed screenshots throughout the Android version of the updated app and posted them below to give you an idea of what you will see.
If you want to join the beta just go to this sign up page to get started on Android or here for iOS devices.
