Well at least that is the unofficial word from Paul Thurrott, the mind and fingers behind the Windows SuperSite, as sent out on his Twitter account just now.

This comes on the day that Steve Ballmer announces his forthcoming retirement from Microsoft as the companies CEO.

We already know that General Availability of Windows 8.1 will be on 18 October 2013 with it appearing in the Windows Store for current Windows 8 users a day earlier.

OEM’s will be getting it very shortly to get it on their new gear in time for GA as noted above so the only thing we do not know is when will MSDN and TechNet subscribers see the final bits for download and testing, etc.?

Your guess is as good as anyone’s on that part as Microsoft is pretty mum on the point.

Whatever happens today has been a pretty busy news day for the Redmond company.
