A lot of tablet users tend to keep the device near them during the course of a day and may even pick it up once every 15 mins or so to stay up to speed on what might be happening in the world.
This is one of the nice benefits of having a tablet handy however, if you are in your own environment such as your home or office entering a password every time the tablet is woken out of sleep/display off mode can become very repetitive and un-necessary.
On the Microsoft Surface RT tablet you can modify the amount of time between your Surface RT going into sleep/display off mode and requiring a password to access the system quite easily.
To do this just follow these steps:
- Open the Charms Bar
- Swipe in from the right side
- Hover your mouse in the lower right hand corner of the screen
- Select Settings Charm
- Select Change PC Settings
- Select Users
Below the settings for Sign-in options you will find a drop down box for Require a password after the display is off for with several options to select from:
- Always require a password
- 1 minute
- 2 minutes
- 3 minutes
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 15 minutes
- Never require a password
Those entries are very self explanatory so pick the one that works best for you and it will become your default setting until you choose to change it.
Here is a screenshot to show you the settings page for changing this.
I find that the 15 minute window works very good for me here around the house and I actually use a very similar setting on my Windows 8 desktop.
