At Microsoft’s TechEd conference there is a lot of networking, learning and tech discussions going on during the entire week.
However, in one area of the Expo Hall of the Orange County Convention Center is an area full of paint, paint brushes, paintings to be painted and bags to be stuffed. Most decidedly a near tech-free zone.
So you may ask what this are is all about.
Well the area is being run by an organization called Project with Purpose and their mission is to partner with companies and match them with local charitable organizations and non-profits.
At this week’s MSTechEd Conference, starting back on last Saturday, there have been over 400 volunteers who have either helped paint murals or stuffed activity and hygiene bags. The artwork is headed to Citrus Memorial Hospital in Orlando and 3,000 hygiene and activity bags are headed to the Ronald McDonald House.
I was told by one of the folks from Project with Purpose that the level of volunteering varied but that one individual put in four hours on Monday and then another four hours on Tuesday.
Ultimately it does not matter how much time you contributed this past week to the Project with Purpose event – it is going to make a difference for a lot of people and that is what really matters in the long run.
Well done Geeks!
