Houston – we have a problem.

It seems that two of the key players at Rovio, creators of the Angry Birds franchise, are at different ends of the spectrum when it comes to whether or not Angry Birds Space will be available to users of Windows Phone handsets.

It all begins with an article at Bloomberg that was published today and in it the Chief Marketing Officer for Rovio, Peter Vesterbacka, said in an interview on Bloomberg TV that Rovio had no plans to release this game on the Windows Phone platform.

“We’re the No. 1 app in the Windows Phone app store, but it’s a big undertaking to support it, and you have to completely rewrite the application,”

So number one app across an entire phone platform but no plans to support it or do the work to get it done. OK.

Then later in the day Rovio’s Chief Executive Officer, Mikael Hed, told Reuters in an interview that although there is no specific date for its availability it will happen.

“We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7”

Apparently Nokia plays into this prominently because Hed also stated:

"We are working closely together with Nokia to bring our games to their platforms," Hed said. "Our mutual goal is to bring the best possible experience to our fans, including all fans using Windows Phone devices."

Yeah I am not sure why he singled out Nokia because other companies do build Windows Phone hardware but that last part of the comment kind of groups them in there as well.

So any guesses on how long it will take to get Angry Birds Space on Windows Phone?  Well if you want to use the original Angry Birds game as a gauge of when we might see this one then we are talking about seven months or so!

Here is why – the original Angry Birds was released to the world in December 2009 and appeared in the Windows Phone Marketplace on 27 May 2011 – about 18 months.  Now to Rovio’s credit the Windows Phone did not come out until November 2011 so from the date of platform availability until it hit the Windows Phone Marketplace – seven months.
