Whether it has been coordinated or not the 29th of February, a day that only happens once every four years and is know as Leap Day, has become the day to download the latest and greatest software from Microsoft.
I hope they have the extra bandwidth to handle the demand!
Here is a list of everything that is going to be available for download on 29 February 2012:
- Microsoft Flight. This Games for Windows title is Microsoft’s re-entry into the realm of flight simulation. After concluding an open beta test earlier this month the game will be available for everyone with a PC. This game is being built on a freemium model which means the initial download will be of no cost and will include a limited area for the gamer to fly in. Additional Downloadable Content (DLC) will be made available to expand the game and will include various locales, aircraft and missions to expand the game.
- Windows 8 Consumer Preview. This beta step in the Windows 8 development timeline follows the very popular Windows 8 Developer Preview that has been downloaded over 3 million times. This latest release of Windows 8 should allow customers to see an almost feature complete version of the next Windows operating system prior to the Release Candidate (RC) phase that is expected later this Summer.
- Visual Studio 11. As reported by Mary Jo Foley of the ZDNet All About Microsoft Blog, is the next version of Visual Studio, expected to be named Visual Studio 2012, which was also released as a developer preview last September when the Windows 8 Developer Preview came out. The Team Foundation Server and Team Foundations Server Express beta’s will also be made available at the same time.
- Windows Server 8. According to The Verge report the next version of Microsoft’s server software will also debut in beta form on 29 February 2012 for companies and users to check out.
This makes for a lot of available downloads of some very popular software. I wonder what the download experience will be like for everyone?
Will you be downloading any of the above software? If so which one will you be grabbing to install?
