Microsoft first introduced the Surface back at the CES 2008 show. Since then the surface has lived on in more of a concept and limited use in hotels and other businesses. At CES 2011, Microsoft introduced Surface 2.0 and ironically just a few days after CES 2012 this device is about to be shipped.
Earlier this week, Samsung Electronics starting shipping the first Samsung SUR40 Surface ”Surface 2″ device for $8,400 for the screen only and $9,049 for the tabletop with matching stand.
The Samsung SUR40 is a multi-touch devices with just a 4-inch profile and 1080p 40 inch LCD display. The magic behind the muliti-touch and object recognition is Microsoft’s touch screen technology called PixelSense, which gives LCD panels the power to see without the use of cameras like were used in Surface 1.0. The LCD panels are protected with Gorilla glass for durability and protection from even liquids.
