This is a guest blog entry from Karin Gerber.
The world is getting smaller and smaller it seems with all of the different ways of communication, it’s easy to let your friends and family know where you are and what you’re doing. The latest thing happening is the linking of all of these social networking sites with each other. Wow, talk about the world wide web! Now you can link MSN to Twitter to Foursquare to Facebook. The newest feature comes from a Twitter based application for the BlackBerry called ÜberTwitter.
ÜberTwitter for BlackBerry integrates a neat little feature into their application that allows you to simultaneously update not only your tweets on Twitter but have them integrated straight to your Facebook status feeder.
Below is a list of the features and capabilities that were introduced in BlackBerry’s ÜberTwitter’s version 1.0.
- Rich Facebook Posting – Optionally post your tweets directly to Facebook from your device. Pictures and location show up in your stream as rich media previews.
- Bit.ly Pro – You asked and we delivered, now you can configure your own Bit.ly Pro account and track your own URL shortened links and take advantage of the advanced features that Bit.ly provides including the use of custom shortened URLs of your choosing.
- Dismissible Ads – For those of you on touch screen devices with the Ad supported version, you can dismiss the ad at the bottom of the screen to give you more screen space. (via ÜberTwitter)
It’s easier to update everyone with a few setting changes without blabbing all of your private details. I know that some people put way too much of the wrong information online that can compromise your privacy but there are actually good things from this new age of sharing. For parents, kids twittering from ÜberTwitter allows for geotagging by letting you know where your children are and if they’re safe and sound.
For people who meet online and go for that first date these geotagging tweets do give your friends and family your whereabouts and who you’re with. Something that in the past you couldn’t do. Its nice to know in a sense that I can update my friends on Twitter, MSN, and now Facebook with one entry and have them know my whereabouts.
A word of caution however and I cannot stress enough to make sure you don’t broadcast your business to people you don’t know. As a precautionary measure check and double-check on your privacy setting to make sure you are safe then go ahead and enjoy these new features and apps. The world may be shrinking, but it’s a much more interesting place to be.
