As expected, Microsoft has released an update for IE6 and IE7 which they considered serious enough to get out ahead of the normal monthly Patch Tuesday scheduled for April. That is a fix for Security Advisory 981374.
Also included in today’s update is a collection of routine fixes that were due to be released in April on Patch Tuesday that deal with security vulnerabilities and if you are running IE8 then you do need to grab this because it contains all of those updates that were in the process of being addressed when the Out of Band release was made.
Yesterday I mentioned in my Internet Explorer Cumulative Update Expected on 30 March 2010 posting that IE8 was unaffected by the security issue that prompted the Out of Band release and that is still true. However, IE8 users on Windows Clients need to go to Windows Update and grab the other updates that do impact IE8.
Bottom line – run Windows Update today and get protected.
