August 2010 Patch Tuesday Advance Notice Info Published

The folks at the MSRC have been busy this week.  First they lead off the week with an out of band security update for a critical vulnerability and now they are preparing for next weeks regularly scheduled monthly security related Patch Tuesday.

Fix It Solution Available for Windows Shell Vulnerability (KB2286198)

The Microsoft Security Response Center has updated Knowledge Base Article KB2286198 with a Fix It wizard that will disable the functionality of .LNK and .PIF files to combat this vulnerability.  In the process it also removes the graphical representation of the shortcut and turns it into a white sheet of paper icon.
