Welcome to Episode 183 of Observed Tech. Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released last week I start off by talking about seeing the movie, so spoilers of course, and some of the possibilities that you have in Windows to connect with the movie and its properties. Next up for discussion is the big list of Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps that were released and/or updated last week by some very big name companies including the Wall Street Journal, Netflix and American Express. It seems like UWP just might work as Microsoft wants it to by bringing apps and services to the Windows 1o desktop and mobile. I then catch you up on my participation in the #LumiaTrials where I am putting a Lumia 950 through its paces and the discussion that myself and fellow MVP Shawn Keene had on Blab last week about the hardware and Continuum. Of course lots of updates in this show about Windows 10 including the latest builds and updates for desktop, mobile, info about when existing handsets will get the new OS and release of the first Redstone build for Insiders. After that we hit on some OneDrive storage and placeholder news, how IE is going to make sure you are on the latest version starting next month and some HoloLens news. Welcome to Episode 182 of Observed Tech. In this show I talk about Surface, the NFL, inaccurate headlines and a great interview that the folks at GeekWire did last week with Panos Panay about all things hardware related at Microsoft. I also discuss how close we are to seeing Windows 10 Mobile released to the public including older Lumia handsets that can run the operating system. We should also be seeing this update arrive soon for non Lumia devices around the same time. Last week was a big week for Windows 10 Mobile as it appears the latest version of the new Mobile OS made it onto commercial handsets with little delay from ATT. Hopefully, that is the first step in a new trend of OS updates not being delayed by the carrier that we are so used to experiencing. I also share my latest experience with Continuum Mode on the Lumia 950 and what it was like to use nothing but that for four straight hours. Next up was momentum that is starting to build in the direction of Windows 10 as some big name companies are bringing their services to Windows 10 devices using the Universal Windows Platform. Other items that are sprinkled throughout the show include Cortana going full cross platform, IE updates, Microsoft Band v2 update that brings new features and Microsoft’s apologies about OneDrive free storage and their latest hardware devices. Welcome to Episode 180 of Observed Tech. This week I catch you up on some Windows 10 Mobile news including my continuing experience with the Lumia 950, the expected public release date of Windows 10 Mobile, which Lumia’s are expected to see the update first, what printers are compatible with the new mobile operating system and the current number of devices running Windows 10 Mobile. Of course, the blame game for Windows 10 Mobile and the lack of Lumia 950/950 XL devices on Verizon ramps up but we also discuss how Microsoft is no longer throwing everything out there to see what sticks when it comes to mobile. Other areas that come up for discussion includes Microsoft’s plans for Internet Explorer on older version of Windows, tablet shipments, and HPE agreeing to sell the Microsoft cloud to its Enterprise customers. Welcome to Episode 159 of the Observed Tech PODCAST and it has been far too long! After a long six week hiatus we are back with a lot of Windows 10 related news and info including a release window, hardware requirements for the desktop and mobile versions and plenty of hands on time with the latest technical preview build. Microsoft Band continues to march forward and now has even wider availability and is heading towards the UK next month plus we also confirm that Internet Explorer’s pronounced death was a bit premature. On the Xbox One front I share about my own experience of adding external storage to my console; your music collection stored in OneDrive can now be streamed to all of your Windows devices and over the web and the dilemma of using parental controls or letting your kid rack up $4,500 in DLC charges.
