We heard at Build 2014 two weeks ago that the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview build would be out in April for anyone who was registered as a Windows Phone developer and had the Preview for Developers app installed on their Windows Phone 8 device.

Then late last week Joe Belfiore jumped on Twitter just as the excitement was building towards a possible release before the weekend and told everyone to relax and enjoy the weekend:

Well now it is early next week and the Windows Phone community is already waking up and looking for their early preview of Windows Phone 8.1.

Although nothing official has been confirmed the cat might have slipped out of the bag confirming that the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1 will be available today.

Jason Cartwright, who runs the techAU blog, seems to have discovered a post that is apparently going live later today in a search for the tag phone on the Building Apps for Windows Blog.

The post, written by Cliff Simpkins who is the Product Manager for Windows and the Windows Phone Developer Experience, can not be fully opened from the search results screen but there is enough info in the excerpt that is displayed to confirm that the preview is coming out today.

Blog Post: Windows Phone 8.1 now available on Windows Phone Preview for Developers

Starting today, you can update your personal dev phone(s) to run Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Preview for Developers program . Along with the tooling delivered in Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 RC , developers can now get everything they need to start building and testing Windows Phone apps…

Here is a screenshot of that search result as well:

Clicking on the link to the story takes you to a sign in page which would indicate this may be a scheduled post that is still showing up in search results for some reason.

No matter the reason it certainly seems to confirm that Windows Phone 8.1 with Cortana and all the other updates is coming our way very early this week!
