These guys are always bringing very useful and creative apps to all the different Microsoft platforms and they are bringing one now that Windows Phone enthusiasts will love having – the ability to measure the speed of their cellular or Wi-Fi connection to their phones.
According to the app description it will provide info to Microsoft that will help them study the various factors that impact our connection speeds.
Network Speed Test can provide you detailed information about the upload and download speeds of your internet connections. The App also maintains a history of the internet connections you’ve tested for easy comparison. When you test a network connection using the App, certain characteristics of your device and the network connection will be sent to Microsoft to help improve our understanding of network quality and availability. If you consent, we may also collect information about your location at the time of the test. The data we collect is not associated with you, and will not be used to identify or contact you or for other purposes like targeted marketing.
Before everyone starts reacting to the information they collect with this app think back to if you have ever tested your Internet connection via a website or another mobile app. You already provide this type of information that helps those sites collate data relating to time, speed, service, etc.
