Windows 8: Mail, Calendar, People, Messaging and Photo Apps Get Update

betalogo

I just logged into my Acer Iconia Tab W500 which is running the Windows 8 Consumer Preview and noticed updates available for the Metro Mail, Calendar, People and Messaging app as well as the Metro Photo app.

I am not sure what the updates include but after installation my Office 365 Exchange email account was deleted in the update without warning and my Twitter account was also disconnected in the People App.

I seem to recall a lot of folks having problems concerning adding a Gmail account and with this update I was able to do so easily.

Suggestion recommendation for Windows Store – list of changes for updates helps the end user make an informed decision to apply an update instead of doing so blindly.

If anyone tracks down a changelog for these updates please let us know.

This occurs mainly because the people app imports your location from the country you set when you were configuring your email account. All you need to do is go back to your mail and change the country location to United states or some other English speaking country or a country with a language of your choice, delete the email account and set it up again. This should solve it

I had the same experience with the Mail app update. My Exchange and GMail accounts were removed and there does not seem to be a way to add them back.

I still had the Add Account option – is that not there for you?

The Skydrive Metro App now has an update – same release notes as the earlier updates.

There is a Release Notes appended to the top of the App Details Page. All this one says for each of these app updates is “Updates to support latest Windows 8 changes.”

So I guess my in story recommendation is OBE :-)
