As we previously mentioned, the latest NPD numbers for November NPD are out. While we focused on the game console numbers. What was unexpected was a 57 percent jump in sales of PC games.
This is surprising as it runs counter to the two big trends in games distribution today, where consoles are taking the lion’s share of attention and development time and PC gaming is shifting toward digital delivery.
The game that is leading this new trend is Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. Skyrim sold 2.8 million copies in November. While those are impressive numbers and just for comparison sake, Modern Warfare 3′s sold 8.99 million across all platforms in November.
Skyrim is a huge PC title due to the amount the game is able to be modded, which opens up new possibilities for the game visually and gameplay-wise that simply aren’t available on consoles.
