Microsoft has made a trial version of their most recent version of Office for MAC available to anyone who wants to try it out.  Of course you must be running MAC OS X to use this version.

For all life’s opportunities. With over 1 billion PCs and Macs running Office, Microsoft Office is the most-trusted and most-used productivity suite ever. And Office for Mac 2011 is here to help you do more with your Mac your way. Use familiar applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to help you take your ideas further. And since Office for Mac is compatible with Office for Windows, you can work on documents with virtually anyone on a Mac or PC. Store your files in a password protected online SkyDrive folder to access, edit, or share your work from virtually anywhere with the free Office Web Apps. Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 includes Word for Mac 2011, Excel for Mac 2011, and PowerPoint for Mac 2011.

The trial version of Microsoft Office for MAC 2011 allows the user to try out the office suite for 30 days and then a license must be purchased to continue to use it.  I am not sure why MAC users only get 30 days compared to 60 days for the PC trial version of Office 2010 but apparently that is a normal trend as Office for MAC 2008 had the same trial period.

The trial software has fully functioning versions of the 2011 editions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook included.

You can download the trial directly from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial and you will be required to provide your country, email address, first and last name and answer one question about how you will use the software (home, business or student).

The trial FAQ is available here http://www.microsoft.com/mac/faq/trial.
