I guess it’s not backwards compatible, the account based logins on XP-shares.

P.S. the regkey which I posted is only a security measure (standard are all roots of HDD’s hidden(C$, D$, etc)-shares)

I found a somehow good tutorial (which should work between XP machines, but seems not to work on Win7 unless I got something wron)
on the following link: http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/FileSharing/Windows/win2kxp.html

With stop autoshares in that tutorial i think they mean the following:
create or change reg-key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
Name: AutoShareWks
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0

I am not sure if that is possible in Windows XP. It might be possible via a third party program but that would take some research.

Hi I’m trying something extra now…

Instead of sharing my XP folder with “everyone”,
I would like to make the folder password protected

I’m somewhere lost here, I’ve created a limited account with password on my XP for this, removed “Everyone” in Share/Security tab, and added the newly created account with change/read/write permissions in Share/Security tab.

However on my Win7 while trying to acces this folder, I get stuck and don’t get a log-in prompt for that folder… Acces denied no privileges

Any thoughts?
