Well after yesterday’s issues with server overload it appears Microsoft has everything back online today and the world is happily downloading Beta 1 of Windows 7.
Public Service Announcement – Don’t forget to download the one critical fix that is out there for the MP3 corruption problem in Windows 7.
OK – back to the purpose of my post. A few days ago I wrote a post about what I believed would be the popularity of Windows 7 once it reached RTM based on the positive response it was getting on Twitter – a social networking site where everyone talks in 140 character bursts.
Well now that the Windows 7 Beta is in the wild courtesy of Microsoft and their beefed up servers I thought I would run a quick review of the Windows 7 search on Twitter’s search site and get the pulse of the people when it comes to Windows 7.
Now I am not going looking for issues with the downloads or gaining access to keys for it – that is out there and apparent. I am more looking for what they are saying once Windows 7 is installed and running on their hardware.
OK – so here we go with the upbeat stuff:
- phpscriptcoder: Finished installing Windows 7, looks good so far
- ramcosca: I’m loving WIndows 7. I have high hopes for it, I actually do.
- scrapplesandwic: Just played with the Media Center in Windows 7. I really like it!
- danielboros: Just installed Windows 7 Beta. Have been pleasantly surprised thus far.
- mark_ca: @andylevy Haven’t tried Windows 7 in Boot Camp but it runs nice in VMWare on the Mac
- bjamin2002: is running windows 7, so far so good
- andyfluke: @jerrymichalski yes, windows 7 looks very promising
- petethepanda: installed the windows 7 beta. out of the box, it runs almost as fast as my tweaked v64 installation… that’s a good thing.
- carnellm: Just installed Windows 7 in a VirtualBox VM on my MacBook. Looking good so far!
- TimBrazer: Windows 7 is beautiful.
- samglover: Playing with Windows 7. So far, I like it. Fast and snappy, even in a VM.
- timnathandyer: I wish I could run the Windows 7 Beta!… Speaking with my internet friends, they say that it’s amazing. It’s the vista vista wanted to be!
- michaelper22: Device Stage in Windows 7 looks so cool
- scottymoon: Up on Windows 7…that didn’t take that long.
- robmontanez: Windows 7 runs smoother and is less intrusive than Vista, but working with it I still find myself battling with it to do even simple things.
- Thunderclap: However, Windows 7 is a decent upgrade from Windows Vista and XP
- Kenkaze: Just Installed Windows 7, looks good so far.
- jrconlin: Ok, not feeling the love for Windows 7. It’s better than Vista, but that’s not really a high water mark.
- tehbawb: Windows 7 is amazing. It’s everything that Vista should have been.
- Follower46: Just installed Windows 7 b7000 64bit. Seems very similar to Vista. Everything is running (minus daemon tools).
- alexnz: has been playing with Windows 7 for a while; most impressive.
- JoshConverse: I think windows 7 has the prettiest bootup so far.
- alphatrak: Windows 7 is running fantastic on my 1 gig ram pentium 4 box.
And now those with some issues with it:
- Korashime: Parallels doesn’t like Windows 7. I’m hopefull an update is not far off.
- kv3x: Installed Windows 7 beta on my Mac with VMWare… Why, I don’t know, but just playing around. To me, it’s just another Vista.
- urbanweb: Don’t bother with Windows 7, I installed it on one of my machines. Drivers are a nightmare!!
- robmontanez: Windows 7 runs smoother and is less intrusive than Vista, but working with it I still find myself battling with it to do even simple things.
- jrconlin: Ok, not feeling the love for Windows 7. It’s better than Vista, but that’s not really a high water mark.
- terryjr386: Windows 7 day 2, finally got the network working with virtual box seems linux vbox is better than windows.
- anthonyalvernaz: Had to restart Windows 7 install due to an error…..
- jiggawagga: Windows 7 won’t start and i’m hungry
And all of these tweets are from the last 30 minutes!
My verdict – it will have its issues but this is going to be as popular as Windows XP was and still is. It gives you Vista with all the fixes!
