Windows Live Writer Technical Preview Available for Download

What a surprise to find a refresh for Windows Live Writer (WLW) available from the team today – this is one of my favorite programs and the only way I post to my blogs now.

They are actually calling it a Technical Preview – I guess that is another word for Beta these days! The currently released version of WLW is Build 12.0.1370.325 and this Technical Preview is Build 14.0.3913.522.

You can see a complete list of the added features on the WLW Blog at

Technical Preview: Now Available for Download

A couple of quick flashes of what I saw after it was installed:

  • New Customer Experience Program – almost standard these days on Microsoft programs. Your choice to participate of course.

  • Auto Link – just type the text of sites you link to often and they will be automatically linked to in your post when published.

  • Tabs at the bottom of the editing screen to switch between Edit; Preview and Source modes of displaying your post.

They are also asking for any of your thoughts on this Technical Preview – you can join in the WLW Forums and be part of the development and feedback loop for this great piece of software.
