It seems like with foldershare, no files are actually hosted with microsoft. They are just acting as the carrier service of delivering files between computers. Basically, foldershare is a synchronization service.

Skydrive, is an online file hosting service. You upload files to the servce. It looks like from there you have the option to send those files to people. I would primarily just use skydrive as an online backup solution. I would upload critical files, and then from any location/time that I need it, I could login and retrieve it from any computer.
